Alan Boothroyd has already silenced a few people who said he didn’t stand a chance of completing his 20 day marathon epic from Lands End to John O’Groats. And the wider public are starting to take note.

Harry Gration and Tanya Arnold at BBC Look North, George Galloway MP, pretty much every member of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club squad led by Huddersfield Town fan and club skipper Andrew Gale and a growing number of celebrities are tweeting their support.

The quiet unassuming 52 year old comes to life when his beloved Huddersfield Town find the net or his feet are pounding through the countryside.

And so far he’s on schedule. On day one he ran 50 miles from Lands End to St Austell, day two saw him progress to Okehampton and it wasn’t until the third leg to Taunton that any problems arose.

Finally getting to Taunton on Sunday

He complained his legs were feeling a ‘bit heavy’ during the first 30 miles. So 130 miles into the challenge his legs felt a bit heavy. For most of us that would have occurred before the mile counter got anywhere near double figures.

He also got lost and added to his journey. He tweeted, “We got lost and I have run 42 miles today (already) the 1st 20 i didn’t run well 2nd 22 i ran good. 7 1/4 to Taunton be there 4-30ish.”

There’s nothing that seems to get this guy down. He told me in an interview a week or so before he embarked on this crazy challenge that he’d crawl the last few days if he had to. He’s that determined to complete the task and raise valuable funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

As I write at 10.27am on Easter Monday, Alan has already blitzed the first half of the day four journey to Bath. He later arrived in Bath at 5pm to complete the first 20% of his journey.

He’s doing well, but needs your support!! So please get behind him everyone!! This is a crazy challenge, by a determined man for a terrific cause.
