On Saturday 4 May the man who ran the length of the UK was welcomed home by friends, the businesses that had supported him and by many people who didn’t even know who Alan Boothroyd was until those twenty days in spring.
Alan, a massive Huddersfield Town fan, thoroughly enjoyed his homecoming party, made even sweeter by the fact that his team fought back to secure a 2-2 draw with Barnsley to ensure they avoided relegation. These last few weeks have all been about survival. For many who overdid the celebrations the morning after continued the same theme!

Alan said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I’ve had. I’ve made friends, beaten a challenge I had wanted to take on for a long time and it has been great to raise money for Huddersfield Town’s Keep It Up campaign. I’m an emotional guy and there were a few tears shed on Saturday. It really did bring it home to me how generous people have been.”
When Approved Food got involved in Alan Boothroyd’s seemingly crazy attempt to run from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 20 days it seemed like a bit of fun. A chance to get behind a great cause in the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and help out by supplying the food and drink to help Booby on his way.
As the 20 days progressed we all got captivated by the man’s determination, effort and courage as the red line on the map of the UK grew longer, into Scotland and to the top of the country. The fact that Approved Food were involved in a small way in such a massive achievement by the 52-year-old Yorkshireman was a genuine honour and privilege.
Many congratulations Alan – you fully deserve all the acclaim and backslapping you have received, even though we know you are not completely comfortable in the spotlight.
You’ve done everyone proud.
